Frequently Asked Questions
How does registration work?
At the time of a school visit, the registration forms are available. Upon deciding to attend, the registration papers must be completed and can be personally dropped off or mailed in, along with the non-refundable $100 registration fee. Once the papers and fee are received, the child is considered enrolled. Any other enrollment papers (example - immunization form, photo release...) are emailed in August and due back when school begins in September.
What's the maximum number of children allowed?
The Pre I class (3-year-olds) has a maximum of 16 students , and the Pre II class (4-year-olds) has a maximum of 18 students There are 2 teachers, so the teacher/child ratio never goes above 1:9.
My child isn't potty trained. Is that ok?
Our preference is that the child be potty trained. We will take a child who is in a pull-up with the expectation that the parents continue to potty train. We find that a child who is almost there will see his/her peers going into the bathroom, will become interested and with teacher and parent encouragement & support, will soon be fully trained.
What does it mean that you are a Christian Preschool?
Being a Christian Preschool isn't about religion or rules. It's about building relationships. We model and teach the Christian faith principles of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness and self-control (fruit of the spirit, Galatian 5:22), demonstrating God's love in a way that helps each child know he/she is unconditionally valued and loved.
Do you have to be part of a church to go to Dove?
Dove is a non-denominational preschool and families from all walks of spiritual life are welcome. You do not need to be attending a church to be a part of our program.
How are things handled regarding illness?
Dove follows our health & safety policy developed using standards set up by the State of Oregon, the Early Learning Division and the Multnomah County Health Department. Multnomah Presbyterian Church supports these standards. Temperature checks are completed daily, along with hand washing/sanitizing throughout the day. A child with a fever greater than 100 is expected to remain home and can return 24 hours after the fever is gone. Children with runny noses and severe cough (not associated with allergies) are requested to remain home. Every family receives a copy of the Health & Safety guidelines.
Why does your tuition seem lower than many other facilities?
Dove is fortunate to be housed within Multnomah Presbyterian Church. Dove was opened in 1980 in order to provide an affordable Christian preschool experience for the community. We are not required to pay rent and are covered under MPC's liability policy. These factors alone make it possible for us to provide a quality preschool experience for an affordable price. We are a self-sustained, non-profit preschool.
Do you require fundraising?
No fundraising is necessary at Dove.
Are you a co-op?
Dove is not a co-op and we don't require parents to volunteer. However, we have an open-door policy and love to have parents help out if they'd like (must be registered with the Oregon Central Background Registry). Sometimes we ask for volunteers, and are open to parents joining us during the day if they'd like.
